It teaches beginning readers to read and comprehend. Decoding is taught through an explicit phonics method that stresses letter sounds and blending. Students learn letter sounds and read regularly spelled words presented in lists and decodable stories. They also learn basic reasoning skills such as making inferences and drawing conclusions, and apply skills as they answer questions.
There are multiple levels that start as low as pre reading and increase from there.
